Culture week kicks-off in Hoi An Vietnam

Hoi An Culture and Tourism Week 2008 begins today in the ancient town. The event, which will promote tourism and celebrate the establishment of Hoi An, will end on April 1.

The week-long event promises to be far more exciting and festive than those in the past. Tourists will be inspired by the atmosphere and will have the opportunity to connect with modern and ancient cultures through a number of activities and tours throughout the town.
A wide range of traditional games and activities including bai choi (folk game), do xam huong (adicegame), ho khoan (Vietnamese folk music performance), releasing lanterns down the Hoai River and an ancient formal costume performance will take place along the pedestrian walkway. There will also be a number of competitions including one for making cocktails and one for tailoring.
An art exhibition endued "Hoi An: the World Heritage" and an art contest entitled "Hoi An in Your View" will offer tourists different perspectives about the ancient town.
Those seeking more excitement can partake in playing sports on Cua Dai beach such as keo co (tug of war), beach football and volleyball or physical activities like weaving nets, rowing boats, building sand castles and flying kites.
Tourists can also take part in a cultural program called "Becoming an Ancient Town Citizen for a Day" and visit occupational villages including those for vegetable cultivation (Tra Que), pottery (Thanh Ha), carpentry (Kim Bong) and fishing (Cam An).
Tour prices are as follows:

- Tra Que vegetable cultivation town: US$20 per person
- Thanh Nam fishing town: US$27 per person
- Citizen for a day tour: US$27 per person
- Cham Islet: US$34 per person - Sea diving in Cua Dai: US$27 per person
